Book Signing-Dari Carroll
Wednesday, May 23rd at 12pm, recently published local author Dari Carroll,
will be signing copies of her new book Free of Me, at noteBooks in Downtown
Floyd. Free of Me is a book of poems in which Dari’s writings reflect on
life, the people she’s met, and the places she’s been. Dari says, “Free of
Me is a book of tears, experiences, and accomplishments”. The author
uses her turbulent childhood to help her in her writing. Dari acknowledges
that this book, her first book, is a liberating experience for her. Without
having written it she says, “I probably would have exploded within, as well
as not being myself”. As her poems reach the hearts of others, Dari hopes
to encourage and inspire her readers to set goals and overcome the obstacles

“Numbers League” Game-day!!
All are invited to noteBooks & Black Water Loft on Saturday, May 12th from
2pm-4pm for game-day with Ben Crenshaw, co-creator of the popular card game
“Skallywags”. Ben will bepresenting and demonstrating his latest card game
“Numbers League”, a stand-alone Super-hero themed card game where players
use their basic math skills to defeat villains that infest the streets of
Infinity City. Excitement and adventure await eager players as they build
their Super-hero team and defend their city from evil! The more you play
the better your math skills become! This game is best suited for ages8 -
infinity but all are welcome to join us for an afternoon of gaming fun!

Black Water Loft welcomes for the first time to its stage, Watercourse Way on Friday May, 11th from 7pm-10pm. A duet from Christiansburg, Virginia; Watercourse Way performs a variety of original and eclectic folk based music where the songs range in style from folk-fusion to blues and rock. Watercourse Way consists of Linda and Alex Oberlitner and is influenced by a broad range of artists including Crosby Stills & Nash, Simon & Garfunkle, Richard Thompson and U2. When Linda sings and plays twelve string guitar, Alex accompanies on electric guitar. When performing their more folk based instrumentals Alex plays acoustic six string guitar and Linda accompanies him on violin. Black Water Loft welcomes back Nico Woodruff on Friday, May 4th from 7:30-9:30pm. Nico (NEE-ko) Cooley Woodruff’s green eyes and red hair give away her Irish heritage. Her surname Cooley undoubtedly goes back to Ireland, where there is a Cooley Peninsula, the Cooley Mountains, and the Cooley Standing Stones. Perhaps that’s why Nico has always felt an affinity for traditional Celtic music. Nico’s music spans a variety of styles. With her haunting ethereal vocals, Nico sings enchanting Celtic and Scottish folk music as well as originals and cover songs, accompanying herself on rhythm guitar and other instrumentation. If you have not had the opportunity to see Nico perform, now is your chance. Let her voice inspire you! This is a beautiful performance from one of Floyd’s favorites!! Oil Paintings by A’Court Bason

The art work of A’Court Bason is on display at Black Water Loft in Downtown Floyd now through the end of May. This show consists of a compilation of past and present work (2002-2007), oils on canvas and wood. A’Court, a resident of Floyd County, has been developing his oil painting technique for some years, and using it as one medium to communicate vision and inspiration.
