Rebecca is a Floyd County native currently residing in West Virginia, and

played at several school functions, had shows in many local bars, and
performed live over the radio. Rebecca is now eager to bring her music back
to her hometown for her first show in Floyd! Rebecca’s acoustic rock style
composed of powerful vocals, aching emotions, and strong guitar complete her
as a folk-rock singer/songwriter. About her music Rebecca says, “Music is
everything to me. Music is my life. It’s how I express myself. How I vent;
how I rejoice. I don’t think I could function without it.” Come out and see

Mike Reid at the Blackwater Loft April 6th!

04.06.07

Solo jazz pianist Mike Reid of the Radford based Jazz duo Tea Tree, will be performing at Black Water Loft. Tea Tree is a jazz project originally formed by Mike Reid, a New River Valley native, sometime in early 2003. Mike’s solo work can be summarized as, “an effort to create new streaks or to bring out unheard harmonic colors in the chromatic spectrum”. In simpler words, Mike aims to renovate jazz as we know it. Mike calls his solo show, “When situations arise…” to reflect on the title of an early song that may have influenced his overall sound and style throughout his four years of playing jazz. Mike says, “It’s my belief that solo piano has equal impact and subtle undertones that can’t be reproduced in any other structure. The late Thelonious Monk was made sure to be captured playing solo, the producers at that time knowing this fact about soloists”. This will be a mixed bag of old jams and material from current releases…find out what it’s all about at the Blackwater Loft!

Many great events coming up at the Blackwater Loft

04.02.07

I’ve been in contact with the Blackwater Loft in Floyd and they are going to send me their events a month in advance so I can put it on the calendar. They are always really great about letting everyone in the area know about their events, but I needed a little more notice.

The Blackwater Loft is a coffee shop, if you want to put a short description on it…really though they are a venue for a lot of different entertainment. They have everything from musicians scheduled to book events (like the premier of the latest and last Harry Potter book).

Anyway, even if there is nothing going on, the Blackwater is a really neat place to hang out. It’s located (sort of) next to the hardware store in Floyd right across from the New Mountain Mercantile and the building they are in the 2nd floor of is worth the visit alone. There is no diner type atmosphere there; it is a coffee shop in stereotypical fashion! Really a neat place just to sit and relax.

If you’re heading up to stay with us, make sure you include a stop at the Blackwater Loft- I’ll be able to check the schedule for you, just ask.

You can also call them- here is their address and phone number:
