It took some doing, but I cut its tongue off…

01.29.07

relax. I’m talking about my trailer here- sheesh; what kind of psychopath do you think I am?

Anyway, now that I have the steel for the new, much longer, tongue I did some surgery on Saturday morning and cut the old tongue off of my trailer in anothe step toward the water. Once I get the new coupler and lights that I have ordered, I’ll put the new tongue on and from there all that is left is building the platform and loading the boat on.

Just a quick update for you…

Toney Sisk; my kinda guy!

Ok, so I was perusing the internet in search of wading boots to fit my oversized feet. You know what they say about us guys with big feet, right? Yep, big feet= good understanding. Anyway, I did a google search on wadign boots and up popped this link about making your own wading boots…turns out it is the site of one Toney J. Sisk, avid fly fisherman and engaging story teller. Anyway, I was very entertained by Toney’s site and wanted to plug it- have to love his tagline: “I tried normal once. I got bored. So I stopped doing it.”
So, here is his site: www.waywardflyfishing.com. Take a look; you will be entertained!

Still a little to do, but…

I put the raft together on Saturday! The whole process took about 2-1/2 hours, about an hour of which was spent unpacking the parts from the boxes and getting all the bubble wrap off. The unpacking, by the way was the hardest part of the whole thing; these rafts are very easy to assemble, even alone. The packing was pretty annoying, but I wouldn’t change a thing- UPS would have to pretty much back a truck over the boxes to damage it in shipping.

Here are some pics:

First, you can see how the parts come super-wrapped in the boxes- everything is double-boxed as well as individually bubble wrapped.

Second and third, the pieces before unwrapping them-

And finally the finished product!

Now all I need is to take measurements to finish up the trailer and wait for warmer weather!

It’s heeeere!

Ok, first off, I have to say that you people have been wearing my server out! The hits on both Meadowood and Greasy Creek have been soaring the past few days. If you experience slow performance, I deeply apologize and want you to know that I am working to speed things up as are the great folks at BlueHost.com who host my site(s).

Second…it has arrived! The 3 boxes containing the raft have gotten here! Wanna see ‘em?

The raft in boxes.

Ok, I know that you are all out there saying ‘Big whoop, a bunch of boxes.’ but hey- I’m HAPPY to see them! Plus, I am supposed to document the assembly and part of the assembly is the unpacking and if you are unpacking then there are boxes to unpack, right?

Anyway, after much thought, I have decided that I will not open the boxes yet… I am going to wait until Saturday morning and I will clear out a space in the garage and unpack and assemble it all in one chunk. I want to see just how long it will take and I need to clear a spot in the garage. I haven’t even got the trailer ready yet; I have to go to Martinsville on Monday to pick up the steel I’m using for the tongue on the trailer and then I have to build a platform for the raft to rest on, but that is ok- the raft can wait in the garage until I’m done. I am sure crawling over it will get old quick and motivate me to get the trailer done…that and the fact that until I get the trailer done, I can’t do a whole lot with the boat…well, I could throw it on the truck and take it to the pond…….

Be well; more to follow soon.

Tomorrow, tomorrow; it’s only a week a-way!

Time crawls when you are eagerly anticipating delivery of something you can’t wait to get your hands on, huh? Well, tomorrow will come; I have faith in that fact…but I don’t like waiting!

Meanwhile, back on the Greasy Creek website, I made a pretty cool change yesterday. The problem with using a pic as a background for a webpage is that you have to (usually) pick a resolution that you want to have the picture be so that it displays properly to the most users. Well, I was having a problem were the picture was tiling for some although for most, it looked great. I fixed that sucker with a bit of free JavaScript code that I came across. It took some tweaking to get it to work the way I wanted, but if you take a look at the site, you will see that the background is adjusted to fit your resolution. If you would like to get the code yourself, or have other comments about the site(s) you can click here to send me an email. Also, if you want to see about making reservations for a trip with Greasy Creek, you can always click here!

More later. As always, be well!
