Ok, I’m goofy and I know that. Anyway, recognizing you have a problem is the first step, right? Anyway, Meadowood has a new ‘family member’, a 1985 Subaru GL wagon that is due to arrive any minute now. Through the Floyd ‘Freecycle’ site, someone offered it up as needing a transmission and I just couldn’t resist. Some people think its strange and others normal that people get attached to their cars. I am one of the latter group. Because of this affiliation, I can proudly say that our vehicles rarely ever break down. When you get attached to something, you take care of it and when you take care of it, it takes care of you, right?
This particular car was bought brand new by a father who later sold it to his son who retired it to buy a brand new Subaru. He didn’t want to see the car parted out so he offered it free of charge to whomever wanted it. Since I’ve always heard good things about them and I love tinkering, I took it. It needs a transmission which I’ve already located and will need a lot of tlc, but it will end up being a valued staff member, I am sure.
Now for the ‘Hoopty’ part. As I am told a friend of their family once gave the car the moniker “The Family Hoopty” and it stuck. Since they have taken to calling it ‘Hoopty’ so will I. I will use this category to chronicle the saga of “Hoopty”.
