My butt hurts; I need a shave and my nubbs are still showing!

Those three statements have something in common, but not what you think- get your mind out of the gutter!

My butt hurts because I’m saddle sore; I just made my first bike ride of the year! 8 miles from the top of the drive to Hwy 58 and back, or so my bike’s speedo tells me…I thought it was 7.5, but hey, my ego likes the sound of 8 even better.

I do need a shave; the chinstrap on my helmet was pretty annoying against the stubble. I know that is really irrelevant, but it made for a deceptively risque title.

As far as my nubbs still showing, that is relevant; I’ve got new tires on my bike- so new the nubs aren’t worn off. Got a great deal on them at East Coasters Bike Shop in Roanoke. I needed a new set of tubes and thought I would try a thinner tire. I happened to spot a brand new set hanging up that were something like $20 per tire. It appears someone bought a new bike and had even thinner tires put on it before taking it home. Since they had been installed on a bike (even though it was new) they sold them as used!

Let me tell you; thin is in- because of my commute to Roanoke since last June I haven’t ridden, well, since last June, pretty much. I couldn’t believe how little roll resistance there was even though I am way out of condition for riding!!! The hills aren’t even that difficult thanks to the lack of friction.

Anyway, I’m back in the saddle again now that the weather is warming up for us and will be posting info about my rides around the area. I expect to be up to a 30 mile round trip to Groundhog Mountain within a month…I hope. I’ll try to start getting some video uploaded as I make these rides too.
